A Marvelous Mom-ent

My latest sojourn took me to on a cycling trip to Croatia with my bestie, who also happens to be my mom. Those who know Mama L will whimper with jealousy, because everyone wishes they had a Pal Like Lisa, much less a mother like her. She is sophisticated and effervescent and hilarious and beautiful. She is my north star and my rock.

Of late, I've returned to a past love: photography. Noting this, Mama Lisa generously lent me her fancy cam. I took heaps and heaps of photos on our trip. Over three hundred, in fact. It was hard to stop snapping. Of those piles of pics, two of my most treasured are of la grande damme herself. A fetching subject to be sure, but these photos also call out memories of my favorite night in Hvar. You know those times in life when everything is matchless? When imperfections are so charming they melt into perfection? When laughter bubbles up at every intersection of conversation? When you really, truly wouldn't want to be anywhere other than in that precise moment? It was that kind of night.

It involved some bubbles (obviously), the best smoked tuna we've ever tasted, a bottle of local Rose, more shrimp than you could shake a stick at, lobster risotto with a whole lobster perched on top, and one very surly Croatian waiter who furled his brow, huffed, scolded us, disapproved our orders and rejected our praise for the food. A perfect addition- a little wabi sabi for so much goodness. But now back to the beauty...

Centerpiece is about sharing all things beautiful in life, and for me, a moment with my mom is surely one of them.
